ZATCA Phase 1 setup
Enter your seller details so every receipt carries a compliant QR code.
Phase 1 is the generation stage of the Saudi e-invoicing mandate: every invoice has to be issued electronically and carry a QR code with a defined set of fields. It is included in the core licence and there is very little to set up.
What you have to enter
Open Settings and find the company and seller section. Two fields do the work:
- Seller name — exactly as it is registered.
- VAT registration number — your 15-digit tax number.
Enter both carefully. They are printed into the QR code on every single receipt, and a typo means every receipt you issue is wrong. Check them against your ZATCA registration rather than typing them from memory.
While you are there, fill in the commercial registration number and address too. They are not part of the Phase 1 QR, but Phase 2 needs them and it saves a second pass.
What gets encoded
The QR code is TLV-encoded and carries five tags:
| Tag | Contents |
|---|---|
| 1 | Seller name |
| 2 | VAT registration number |
| 3 | Invoice timestamp |
| 4 | Invoice total including VAT |
| 5 | VAT total |
The app builds this at the moment the sale is completed, so the QR is on the receipt the customer walks out with.
Checking it
Settings shows a QR preview so you can see the code before you print anything.
Do the real test as well: ring up a small sale, print the receipt, and scan the QR with a phone. What comes back should be your seller name, your VAT number, and the totals from that receipt. If the seller name is blank or the VAT number is wrong, go back to Settings.
Simplified or standard
The app chooses the invoice type per sale. A ticket with a customer who has a VAT number is issued as a standard tax invoice; anything else is a simplified tax invoice. Nothing needs setting for this.
Voided bills are never sent to ZATCA.
VAT rates
Set your VAT rates in Settings and assign the right one to each product. The QR reports the VAT you actually charged, so if a product is on the wrong rate the QR faithfully reports the wrong number. It is worth reviewing rates across the catalogue once, properly, rather than discovering the problem in a filing.
Do I need Phase 2 as well?
Only if ZATCA has told you that you are in scope for the integration phase. They notify businesses in waves by turnover. Until you are notified, Phase 1 QR codes are sufficient and there is nothing else to do.
When you are notified, see ZATCA Phase 2 onboarding.
